Crowdfunding Cost Checklist

Stress-test the cost stack behind a campaign goal.

Build the campaign budget in layers

Start with product and fulfillment costs, then add campaign fixed work, platform/payment assumptions, shipping subsidy, replacement reserve, and post-campaign obligations. The useful checklist is one that identifies a missing decision owner, not one that simply repeats category names.

How to apply it

Run a base case with expected backers and a lower-backers case with the same fixed costs. A campaign can clear its funding target yet still leave too little contribution for artwork, freight changes, or customer service if those lines were omitted.

Questions and decisions

Ask each partner which costs change with quantity, which are fixed, and what they exclude. Keep stretch goals and add-ons on separate rows so their incremental cost is not hidden inside the core pledge margin.

Next step

Use the linked tools with your project’s documented inputs, retain the source or quote date beside the scenario, and update the decision when the specification changes.
